Deck the Halls

It’s been a tradition in the House of Harper to deck the halls immediately after Thanksgiving but 2011′s schedule has been pretty maxed with work and traveling so we’ve had to hold off which is testing my weak patience. Currently we’re on the road in the country’s epic Northwest, where it truly feels like the perfect Christmas weather. We’re bundled up in our winter gear, drinking hot cocoa (and coffee…it’s Seattle, baby!) and enjoying family time so essentially we’re getting two Christmas celebrations, which is blissful for me since it’s my favorite holiday, ever. I am looking forward to getting back home, though, and decorating the tree and anything that will be stable enough to hold a bulb, garland, glitter and pinecones. I’m also looking forward to my two-year old exclaiming, “Happy Birthday, Jesus” when we light the tree. Obviously, that’s a new tradition being that my son is just learning how to string full sentences but I’d say it may be my favorite one yet.

Love at first whiff…

It’s not often I adopt a new signature scent and come to think of it, it’s been over 4 years that I’ve been using this as my go-to, which I love. But then it happens. You decide to open one of those fragrance ads you find in magazines (often with remorse for having done so), and it’s like magic. You have to have it! Thankfully, you can order samples via eBay for a small fee to make sure it’s the one like I did. And although descriptives like jasmine, plum, patchouli and leather don’t truly convey how amazing this smells, I’ll just say, “it’s sooooooo good.”

Accessory Report: THE QUEEN B.

I thought I would give the Accessory Report a bit of visual bliss with images from one of my favorite accessorizers: Beth Jones of B. Jones Style. I adore her blog because of her endless outfit posts and her tireless ability to finish off looks with just the right amount of polish and personal style. Whether it’s a simple scarf tied around her neck, bold earrings, a chic bag, interesting arm candy or a killer hair ‘do, Beth simply does it right! And ps: For hair challenged people like myself, Beth has a huge selection of hair tutorials called “Your Cheapest Accessory,” that are not only incredibly easy and helpful but chic, chic, chic! When it comes to Creating That Style, you can bet yours truly consults the Queen B!

Beauty Report: The CHEAPIE & The SPLURGE

‘Tis the season for Holiday parties and I’m sure many of you are looking forward to getting dolled up! One way to do that is, of course, with makeup and I’m dishing to you my latest obsessions in the form of The Cheapie & The Splurge.

Winged eyeliner and big lashes are nothing new but the beauty “scene” claims this duo is hot right now! (When is it cold, I ask?)

Since I’m forever a sucker for trying new products (read: CHEAP new products), I just had to try L’Oreal’s Voluminous False Fiber Lashes, pronto. Good news! It delivers and being half-filipino with short eyelashes, I’m picky with my mascara and anything that gives me length and volume has my vote. What makes this ideal is the brush. It’s angular perfection and I’m surprised at how cheap ($9!) this product is, given the fact that I’ve been a slave to the expensive ones out there.

The splurge is the eyeliner and I’m afraid it’s true. Cheap eyeliner just doesn’t do the trick. It cakes, runs, disappears…you know what I’m talking about. Truth be told, I’m not one to go out and “give something a try” that runs me a hefty $42 when it comes to eyeliner so it’s pretty awesome that I received this baby in a swag bag from Neiman Marcus at the Bloggers Brilliance conference recently where I was a panelist. Le Metier de Beauté Precision Liquid EyelinerLet me tell you. This eyeliner ROCKS, simply put. It stays, it doesn’t smudge, it gives me control thanks to the soft, quill-tipped applicator. Serious precision and well, I’m sold! I’m always thinking it’ll be dry when I take the cap off (I’ve used it for three months), but it still has moisture. I hope it lasts and lasts because I’m going to want to see my money stretch. Just like my winged eye!
